FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When should I schedule a "Belly" session?
Generally speaking between 32-36 weeks is ideal for a maternity session. If it's not your first time around you may be at the earlier part of that window as most tend to show sooner. If you are carrying twins we should schedule on the earlier end too! You have to feel comfortable but yet have a nice round baby bump and if you wait too long, you will be uncomfortable and that will come across in the images.
What should I wear for my "Belly" session?
Solid neutral colors are best primarily. Simple, long, stretchy, solid dresses are very flattering. I also recommend a simple black pant or skirt with a stretchy waist that we can expose the belly while keeping everything else supported and tight; then we pair this with a sport bra, or scarf wrap, or strategic placement of hands. Depending on what type of shot you want, we can do some that will really express your style. ie. If you are a "jeans" kinda gal and have a pair that you fit in with a flattering top.
Is there anything else I should bring to my "Belly" session?
Yes!! I love incorporating things that tie directly to the baby. (ie. framed ultrasound image, pair of knitted shoes or hat, stuffed animal that matches the nursery theme, etc....) We will discuss your nursery theme an possible images that will not only be timeless, but also find some that can enhance your nursery decor. These considerations are especially important if you are booking the "Belly and Baby" package.
When should I schedule a newborn session?
If booking only a newborn session, please contact me before your baby arrives! We will find a day of the week that works well and set aside a couple of dates around your due date. When it comes to setting the final date, I prefer to do it within the first 12 days of your baby's arrival. The longer you wait for newborn photos, the more challenging it becomes.
What should I bring for my newborn shoot?
Anything you think you may want used.....bring it. I have several props, however, this is something that we will discuss and figure out how we can make your session and photos personal to your own interests. Best things to include are heirloom items (ie. baby shoes passed down, special baby blankets or stuffed animals, etc.)
Can Mommy, Daddy, or other children be in the newborn photos?
Yes, but please remember that this is a newborn session and not a family session. Here are a few guidelines that I prefer: If Daddy will be included, we will work around his schedule (please plan to be there for at least 1 hour of the shoot). For siblings, please arrange to have them arrive only towards the end of the session.
Can we still do a session for an infant that is one month or older?
Yes, but please note that there will be an additional amount of difficulty and the resulting images will more greatly depend on the temperment of your infant. The style of images will also depend on the stage your child is in (ie. head is steady, if baby is comfortable on his/her tummy, etc.) Please note, it is less likely to get specific posed images. In these cases, I find that including Mommy and/or Daddy in images is best as the infant is usually happiest when held. If your infant is crawling, it will be booked as a family session.
